The Pirates finally consummated the trade with the Yankees for A.J. Burnett. It took $13million and two low level minor leaguers, outfielder Exicardo Cayones and right-hander Diego Moreno. This amounts to a win for the both teams as the Yankees unload the payroll they wished and the Pirates get the rotation depth they were desperate for.
There can be some hope that Burnett will perform better in a more pitcher friendly stadium, more pitcher friendly league, and a more pitcher friendly division. I will not hold my breath on that considering his road ERA was higher than his home ERA in 2011, 6.28 to 4.41respectively. He was able to log 190.1 innings pitched while striking out 173 which would look good on a Pirates staff. So there is some hope that this will work, and there is no risk to speak of, unless Cayones amounts to be the next Jose Bautista.
