Starling Marte arrives to big leagues. I’ve mixed reviews on this. I’m all for it in the respect that the Bucs need a true professional corner left fielder. Left field has been well below competitive standards thus far this season. I’m unsure if Marte is seasoned enough, but if his mental makeup is strong, then he should be fine. I am excited to see how he does, but I am not confident it will amount to a big difference in offensive production from the position.
Garrett Jones seems to have taken hold of the full-time right field job as he has recently been solid against LHP. I hope to see Gorkys Hernandez stick around because he seems to make a fantastic play in the OF as a defensive substitute every couple games. The guy covers an amazing amount of ground. I wish the Pirates would give Jordy Mercer an extended look at SS and use Clint Barmes as a defensive substitute as well.
